Two Heads are better than One?

ZaphodActor/Director Mark Wing-Davey took time out at HitchCon 2009 - a lavish celebration for Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy fans at the Festival Hall on October 12th - to down a neatly mixed Pan Galactic Gargleblaster and wish the Science Alive project well. Posing for a photo in a seaside cut-out of his famous character, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Mark smiled and wished the project well in a familiar intergalactic drawl:

"Heyyyy! I hope you all get where you're headed - Harlow, huh? Is that anywhere near my hometown on Beeteljuice?"

Harlow Scientist wins 2009 Nobel Prize for Physics

Science Alive supporters and enthusiasts joined a world-wide celebration as the 2009 Nobel Prize awards were announced. The inclusion of Charles Kao for his pioneering work on fibre-optic technology during his years at Standard Telecommunications in Harlow brings a local tinge of excitement for many who worked in the communications industry and for a number who remember Charles personally as a colleague.

An excellent website has been set up which gives further information, including the reaction of Charles and his wife Gwen to the news.
